Florida State University Magnet Research and Development

Florida State University Magnet Research and Development, Inc., (FSUMRD) is a not-for-profit corporation and a direct support organization (DSO) that promotes and encourages work to design, develop, build and test magnet systems. Faculty, staff and students serve FSU MRD projects with income from contracts, grants and other sources. 

FSUMRD was created in 2017 when the Hahn-Meitner Institute wanted the MagLab to build a world-unique magnet for neutron scattering at 67% higher field than available elsewhere at that time. FSUMRD also served as a vehicle for the MagLab to provide a Nb3Sn CICC coil to the magnet lab in Nijmegen, The Netherlands and is presently facilitating the MagLab partnering with Oxford Instruments Nano-Science to develop high field magnets based on Bi-2212 superconductors for use in nuclear magnetic resonance.

Completed Projects:

  • A 26 T resistive-superconducting hybrid magnet for Neutron Scattering at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin, consisting of a 13 T conical resistive coil nested inside of a 13 T, 600 mm bore Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit coil.
  • The superconducting outsert to a new 45 T hybrid magnet for the High Field Magnet Lab at Radboud University, Nijmegen. This features a 7-ton, 13 T Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit coil with a 700 mm bore.

Florida State University Magnet Research & Development, Inc. ("FSUMRD") is requesting proposals from qualified Certified Public Accounting firms ("Proposer") to provide audit and tax return preparation services for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023 through June 30, 2027.
