The MagLab is funded by the National Science Foundation and the State of Florida.

College Students

From undergrads to postdocs, students get hands-on research experience along with academic and career support.

Want to gain research experience at the cutting edge of magnetic field, pressure and temperature? Look no further than the MagLab. Students can be part of research across many disciplines — physics, biology, chemistry, engineering.

The lab continues to address workforce development needs of college students, graduate students, and postdocs while tracking participant career progression. This includes professional development and mentorship through specialized skill development, workshops, and a chance to network with other students, users, and faculty at the Lab. In addition, all graduate students and postdocs at the MagLab are encouraged to work with their mentors on creating an individual development plan to make the most of their time at the lab.

Individual Development Plan

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has a free online IDP that you can fill out with your mentor.

Academic and Career Support

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

This 10-week summer mentoring program allows undergraduates to conduct research alongside MagLab scientists and engineers to gain hands-on experiences at the lab.

Internships

Want to take part in a professional learning experience at the world's largest and highest-powered magnet lab? There are many pathways to intern at the National MagLab.

User Summer School

If you are an advanced graduate student, postdoctoral associate or early career investigator looking to gain practical measurement experience, the MagLab User Summer School will help you develop skills you can use in your home laboratory and in user facilities worldwide.

Theory Winter School

This annual workshop aims to provide an introductory overview of key results and unanswered questions in both theoretical and experimental physics through presentations and talks from esteemed guest lecturers from around the globe.

Supporting College Students

Mentorship

Students, teachers and employees of all ages and stages learn from our scientists and educators every year through formal programs and informal teaching, furthering the lab's goal of nurturing the next generation of scientists.

Meet Our Scientist/Staff

Students get to work with top notch scientists and staff across the MagLab. Meet a few of them here (or search our entire team by research interest or keyword).

Meet the Users

The lab's user program offers opportunities for college students to conduct high magnetic field research.

Job Opportunities

Look for paid positions across the MagLab and at all career levels.
